Rita Ora’s song “Finish Line”, written by Diane Warren, celebrates 50 years of Title IX and serves as the anthem for Fifty/50 documentaries

LOS ANGELES – Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution Networks and Hollywood Records announced the release on Friday of the new song “Finish Line,” performed by global superstar Rita Ora and written by award-winning songwriter Diane Warren.

“Finish Line” will serve as the soundtrack for ESPN’s upcoming four-part Title IX documentary “37 Words.”

A true passion project across the company, ABC Owned Television Stations’ race and culture team played a critical role in securing the song and were part of a majority-female-led team responsible for the creative vision of the “Finish Line” music video .

“When [Warren] brought me this song, I was so moved by the lyrics and the passion they evoked and knew immediately I had to be involved in the project. The fight for women’s equality is a global issue,” Ora said in a statement. “Every day women around the world fight to be seen, heard and respected. We must continue to work to empower each other as we strive to make women’s equality a reality in every corner of the world.”

“This powerful initiative inspired me to write ‘Finish Line’ as an uplifting anthem that reminds us to never give up the fight. It may be 50 years since the law was passed, but we’re still pushing for the basic human right to equality,” Warren adds.

An exclusive clip from the music video premiered Sunday during ABC’s “American Idol.” Emmy Award-winning producer and host Ryan Seacrest interviewed both Ora and Warren live.

“This campaign is designed to remind women to stay strong and stick together,” Ora told Seacrest.

“There are no obstacles that we as women cannot overcome,” Warren added.

“Finish Line” is a women’s empowerment anthem that will support “37 Words,” a four-part ESPN documentary by documentary filmmakers Dawn Porter and Nicole Newnham, as part of The Walt Disney Company’s ESPN-led Fifty/50 initiative. The Fifty/50 initiative commemorates the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX, the federal Civil Rights Act, which prohibits sex discrimination in all educational institutions that receive federal funding and gives women equal opportunity to gamble.

A female-led executive and creative team came together to ensure diverse women spearheaded all elements of the Finish Line production. The collaboration is a deliberate show of empowerment and respect for Title IX women who have broken down barriers and paved the way for many. The project was led by Adrianne Anderson, VP of content development and marketing at KABC-TV, and Nzinga Blake, executive producer of race and culture at ABC Owned Television Stations.

“As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Title IX across the Walt Disney Company, it’s a true gift that two artists as prolific and empowered as Rita Ora and Diane Warren bring their talent and passion to a song that girls and… Women celebrated and encouraged across the country,” said Debra OConnell, President of Networks for Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution. “‘Finish Line’ is a fantastic and powerful anthem brought to life by an extraordinary and inspiring group of women. I I am incredibly proud of this collaboration and very excited to showcase it in our networks as part of the Fifty/50 initiative.”

Together, the ABC team decided to harness the power of the Disney brand and tap into internal resources and talent to launch this project. In an unprecedented move, the broadcast group made the decision to produce and direct the music video in-house and to work with Disney Music Group’s Hollywood Records to produce the song in close collaboration with ESPN.

“Finish Line” was released on all music streaming services on Friday. Fans can watch an exclusive music video clip when “American Idol” airs live on ABC on Sunday, May 15 (8pm-10pm EDT/5pm-7pm PDT). Follow on-demand on Hulu the next day. Viewers will also hear the song on ESPN’s 37 Words documentaries when they premiere on ESPN on June 21 (Parts 1 and 2) and June 28 (Parts 3 and 4) at 8 p.m.

The Walt Disney Co. is the parent company of ESPN, Hollywood Records and this network.
