Robert Downey Jr.: Chris Hemsworth was in a ‘sweet spot’ for ‘Endgame’

“Once in a while, a few times in your career, you have little moments where you’ve hit the mark and it’s like you’re in the sweet spot,” Downey told Hemsworth.

Chris Hemsworth hit a career high thanks to praise from Robert Downey Jr. in Avengers: Endgame.

Hemsworth recalled being reluctant to improvise an emotional scene as Thor to deal with the post-Thanos loss.

“Yeah, you’re always like, ‘Will this work,’ you know? I mean I remember that scene [in ‘Avengers: Endgame]’ where I kind of break down and propose the mission to everyone and talk about my family and who died and so on… just little moments like this in your career where everything just falls into place and there was a bit of improvisation, and so on ‘ Hemsworth recalled during the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “And I think I ended up saying to Downey, ‘I want a Bloody Mary,’ and he said to me, ‘How are you feeling?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I forgot, it’s very special.’”

Hemsworth continued, “He says, ‘Every now and then, a couple of times in your career, you have little moments where you hit the mark, and it’s like you’re in the sweet spot.’ And he said, ‘Oh, enjoy it.’ And I really appreciated that because I definitely felt something special in that moment, but who am I to judge, you know? And so the godfather leaned forward and said, ‘Well done, son…’”

The 2019 film marked Downey’s final turn as Iron Man, and Hemsworth has now hinted at leaving the role of Thor.

“I feel like we’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, know what I mean? I feel like it probably justifies that,” Hemsworth told Vanity Fair. “I have a feeling it would probably be the finale, but that’s not based on anything anyone told me or any plans.”

He added: “You have this birth of a hero, journey of a hero, then death of a hero, and I don’t know – am I at that stage? Who knows?”

Hemsworth noted that he’s “completely open” to another Thor movie if “there’s something unique, fresh, and unexpected about the character and the world,” similar to Taika Waititi’s episodes. “I’ve always loved that experience. I’m very grateful that I was able to do something different each time,” said Hemsworth.
