Ron Herrera is stepping down as president of the LA County Federation of Labor after a leaked recording of LA council members making racist comments

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Ron Herrera, the president of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, resigned from the federation’s board on Monday after a leaked audio recording revealed that he was involved in a conversation involving LA City Council members Nury Martinez and Kevin De León , made racist remarks.
Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, head of the California Labor Federation, confirmed to Eyewitness News that Herrera had offered his resignation to the board.
Leaked audio from an October 2021 conversation was released on Sunday when an anonymous user posted it on Reddit. In it, Nury Martinez was heard using a racial slur in Spanish to refer to Councilor Mike Bonin’s black son and referring to his misconduct during a parade, noting, “This kid needs a caning.” Martinez resigned Monday morning as President of the Los Angeles City Council.
The remarks were made during a call with councilors Gil Cedillo, Kevin de León and Martinez, and Herrera.
