NT stars Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan will join director SS Rajamouli at TCL Chinese on January 9th as the Indian hit makes its comeback for the awards season.
The world hit “RRR” returns to the cinemas.
IndieWire can exclusively reveal that NT stars Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan will join writer-director SS Rajamouli and composer MM Keeravaani on Monday, January 9th at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles for a special IMAX screening of “RRR” will participate.
Variance Films, Beyond Fest and American Cinematheque are jointly announcing the presentation, which will see the film’s leads, director and composer perform together for the first time in North America.
India chose to submit “Chhello Show” versus seminal Indian Telugu language action-adventure epic “RRR” as its nominee for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film 2023 – read more here – but anyway: The Journey of Awards Season for “RRR” is just beginning. The film will be recognized for Best Director by the New York Film Critics Circle next week, and the following week “RRR” will compete for Best Film in a Non-English Language at the Golden Globes, where Rajamouli and the film’s two leads will be will be present. “RRR” is also up for Globes for Keeravaani’s Best Original Song “Naatu Naatu” with lyrics by Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj.
The Chinese TCL screening includes a discussion with the team after the screening.
Following its initial worldwide release in March, “RRR” was re-released in US theaters on June 1, 2022 for what was originally a one-night-only “last chance” event, now in its 30th season. on screens for weeks in a row. The epic has grossed well over $100 million worldwide and is currently streaming on Netflix.
“The first screening of ‘RRR’ at the Chinese Theater left a footprint in the LA film community,” said Grant Moninger, program director and creative director of the American Cinematheque. “This ultimate screening of ‘RRR’ will undoubtedly set a new standard by which the cinematic experience can be measured.”
“RRR” also received five Critics Choice Awards nominations (Best Film, Director, Song, Foreign Language Film and Visual Effects) and has appeared on countless leaderboards.
“I think the great thing about cinemas is the collective high that a great film can give to the right audience, and I’ve never felt anything like what happened in the room at our last screening of ‘RRR’ in Chinese, and that’s going to blow that out of the water,” said Dylan Marchetti, president of Variance Films, which distributed the film in the United States this year. “If you love movies, if you love cinemas, if you’re chasing that collective high, you should move mountains to be with us.”
