Running for Fun: The Importance of Stretching

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – On this week’s episode of Run for Fun, Leigh Spann and Coach Maria discuss the importance of stretching.

The stretching exercises before and after the workout or run should be different. Before running, the warm-up should include movement. Cold muscles should not be stretched. Try lunges or quick knee raises.

After the run, you can do longer stretching exercises, e.g. B. a forward bend to touch your toes or a quadriceps stretch. This type of post-workout stretch can reduce the risk of injury and promote muscle recovery. These stretches can also improve range of motion after repeating a long run.

Coach Maria explains other benefits of stretching and some things to avoid when stretching before and after your run.

Be sure to watch or listen to previous episodes of Run for Fun for more tips on enjoying your run and leading a more active lifestyle.
