Russell County Coroner’s Office: One dead after Phenix City shooting

PHENIX CITY, Alabama (WRBL) – The Russell County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that an 18-year-old man died in a shooting Sunday in Phoenix City.

Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry said Darius Underwood was pronounced dead at 11:36 a.m. Monday morning at the UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Sumbry says the cause of death was a gunshot wound and his body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery, Alabama, for an autopsy.

The Phoenix City Police Department and the Russell County Coroner’s Office are currently investigating the case.
