Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned his country on Christmas night not to let up and expect another hellish week as calendar year 2022 comes to a close.
The Russian war of aggression enters its 306th day in cold Eastern Europe on Monday. Zelenskyy said that although Christmas is now over and the New Year is imminent, this last week of the year could be tough when it comes to Russia.
“Russia lost everything possible this year,” said Zelenskyy. “But [Russian President Vladimir Putin] tries to make up for its losses with the ruse of its propagandists after rocket attacks on our country, on our energy sector.”
Zelenskyy, in his late-night address to the nation, said Ukrainians should be on full alert this final week of 2022 as he predicts Russia will try to make things extremely “dark and difficult.”
“There are still a few days left this year. We must be aware that our enemy will try to make this time dark and difficult for us,” said Zelenskyy. He continued: “I know the darkness will not prevent us from leading the occupiers to their new defeats, but we must be prepared for any scenario.”
Zelensky went on to tell his countrymen that when they hear air raid sirens, they should seek out places dubbed the “Point of Invincibility”.
“Search again and remember where the next “Point of Invincibility” is. If needed, tell parents how to find the “Point of Invincibility”. More than 5,500 points have already been opened across the country,” said the President.
That speech came just a day after the president’s Christmas Eve address reminded Ukrainians to stay vigilant during the holiday season.
“Unfortunately, all the holidays have a bitter aftertaste for us this year. And we can feel the traditional spirit of Christmas differently. Dinner at the family table can not be so tasty and warm. There can be empty chairs around it, ”said Zelenskyj.
“Our houses and streets cannot be so bright. And Christmas bells can not ring so loud and inspirational. By air raid sirens or worse – gunshots and explosions. And all of this together can pose a greater threat. It’s a disappointment. Of the higher powers and their might, of goodness and justice in the world. loss of hope. loss of love. loss of myself…”
Zelenskyy recently returned after a trip in the cloak of darkness to the United States and back home on Wednesday, during which he met with President Joe Biden and urged Congress to continue providing aid to his country. The US approved $1.85 billion in additional aid to Ukraine, which now includes the Patriot air defense system.
Russia has lost more than 102,000 troops since its invasion on February 24 this year.
Zelenskyy called Russia the “evil and darkness” that has invaded his country, and he vowed Ukraine will use the “wisdom of God” to overcome it.
“Isn’t that what evil and darkness that have taken up arms against us need in their essence? We resisted them for more than three hundred days and eight years,” said Zelenskyy. “And will we allow them to achieve what they want?
