Will Ferrell heard ryan reynolds “embarrassing” plan and he somehow wants to go along with it. The duo’s song “Good Afternoon” from the movie musical Spirited is shortlisted for the 2023 Oscars for Best Original Song, and Reynolds already knows how to celebrate the potential nomination.
Earlier this month, Reynolds admitted he was ready to “show up on stage and embarrass himself” when “Good Afternoon” is officially nominated. We’d love for Reynolds to sing the song at the awards ceremony, but “Good Afternoon” is ultimately a duet, and if there were to be a live performance, it would be even better if Will Ferrell reprized his role as Ebenezer Scrooge for show repeats the song.
Thankfully, Ferrell seems to feel the same way. In a recent interview with meetingThe star was asked how he was doing performing “Good Afternoon” with Reynolds, despite the musical number being difficult to master.
“To argue with these songs, the musical numbers, that was a masterpiece. For seven weeks we rehearse and coordinate all the jumps in choreography and then perform it live on set many times, which we weren’t told beforehand. I have to sing it live too? But I’m proud of it and that it turned out to be a solid reason for a remake A Christmas song. So, famous last words, if Ryan’s there, so am I.”
With Ferrell on board, the potential gig will become a memorable pop culture moment — as long as “Good Afternoon” secures the nomination. The song faces stiff competition, with songs by The Weeknd, Taylor Swift and Rihanna also being shortlisted.
The official nominations for the Oscars will be announced on January 24th at 8:30am ET. We’re hoping to see ‘Good Afternoon’ on the official list, even if it will make Hugh Jackman’s 2023 ‘intolerable’.
