Salesforce Hires Thousands in India • The Register

Salesforce is expected to hire 2,500 people in India – bringing the number to 10,000 on the subcontinent – weeks after it slowed hiring in the US.

The global CRM giant will adjust the number by the first quarter of next calendar year, Salesforce India CEO Arundhati Bhattacharya said in an interview with Press Trust of India.

The rise follows the steady acceleration of the company’s operations in India – which has offices in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Gurugram and Jaipur. As of April 2020, Salesforce had 2,500 employees in India.

Following second-quarter results in June, CFO Amy Weaver told investors that Salesforce is taking a cautious approach to hiring amid the uncertain economic environment.

“We ask every leader to stand up and look at their businesses and set priorities. I believe we continue to invest in growth, which remains our #1 priority. In terms of the specific drivers, definitely further a measured approach and a very deliberate approach to hiring,” she said.

Other tech giants are also seeing opportunities to hire outside of the US and European markets.

Microsoft is The company is reportedly planning to increase its workforce in China to more than 10,000 next year, up from around 9,000 now.

Similar to Salesforce, the move by the Redmond software company goes back to the slowdown in the USA. In July, it hit the brakes when hiring in various software and collaboration product areas including Windows, Office and Teams. According to Microsoft at the time, this was just preparation for the new fiscal year beginning in July and the alignment of resources with opportunities. Earlier this month it announced that it would lay off 1 percent of its 180,000 employees.

The company isn’t the only company making headlines when it comes to hiring. In June, network giant Cisco signaled its response to macroeconomic warning signs of high inflation and uncertain growth.
