Sally Field: Burt Reynolds was my worst screen kiss

“It just wasn’t something he did really very well,” Field said of the late Boogie Nights graduate.

Turns out, sex symbol Burt Reynolds was a bad kisser, according to former co-star and lover Sally Field.

The ‘Spoiler Alert’ actress revealed to host Andy Cohen that her 1977 ‘Smokey and the Bandit’ co-star Reynolds was lacking in kisses. “Oh boy, am I really supposed to name names here?” Field teased when asked who her worst on-screen kiss was during “Watch What Happens Live.”

Field continued, “OK, this is going to be a shocker guys, hang in there: Burt Reynolds.”

The 80 for Brady star added, “It just wasn’t something he did really very well. I could go into detail, but you don’t want to hear it.”

Field shared that Reynolds “drooled a lot” when it came to kissing her. Reynolds previously called Field the “love of my life” in a 2015 interview with Vanity Fair (via People magazine), and Field admitted to having an “instant connection” with the legendary movie star.

Field wrote in her 2018 memoir Pieces that Reynolds “started the slump” when she began a relationship.

“I knew early on that I should never mention the men who had been in my life, and I later became terrified of encountering anyone I might have known, sexually or not,” Field said. “Burt put my face in his hands and challenged me to tell him who the guy was and what kind of relationship I had with him.”

Reynolds was notoriously difficult to work with, as “Boogie Nights” co-star William H. Macy called him “cluesless” on set. “He wrecked the film after we were done—up until the point it got an Oscar nomination,” Macy said in a recent oral history for the film. Reynolds infamously called director Paul Thomas Anderson “young and full of himself” and added that he “wanted to hit him” during production.

“Every shot we took was like the first time [that shot had ever been done]’ said Reynolds. “I remember the first take we did on ‘Boogie Nights.’,’ where I drive to Grauman’s Theater. After saying, ‘Isn’t that amazing?’ And I named five pictures that had the same type of shot.”

Anderson, who was 27 when the film was released, recalled several “hot” days on set with Reynolds.
