Say hello to ABC7: The Riverside Arts Academy is hosting a concert in honor of the Air Force sergeant stationed far from her family

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC)– Being stationed thousands of miles away from family members is particularly difficult for members of the US military over the holiday season.
That’s why a few young artists helped brighten the day with music for an Air Force sergeant stationed a continent away from her husband and children.
Master Sgt. Wendy Day works weekdays as a civilian at March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County.
But she’s also based out of Charleston, South Carolina as a combat camera journalist.
That means she spends a lot of time away from her Southern California home — and her husband and two children.
student with Riverside Arts Academy recently gave a public concert to honor Day for her service and dedication.
“I really appreciate the community reaching out and supporting us at this time of year,” said Day. “It really means a lot.”
Collette Lee, president of the academy, said the performance is not only to honor the day, but also to educate the children about military service.
“This family has a very difficult path because they have two young children and their base is in Charleston and they have to fly back,” Lee said. “Imagine having a newborn baby and having to do this.”
