Shane MacGowan’s wife gives an update on his health and says she is “as determined as ever” to get him home from hospital

MUSIC icon Shane MacGowan beamed as his wife gave fans an update on her health from his hospital bed.

The Pogues singer was filmed in his hospital bed “looking radiant” as he recovered from a stay in intensive care over the summer.

The 65-year-old has been being treated for viral encephalitis – a rare and serious condition in which the brain swells – since December last year.

The rocker contracted shingles in hospital and stayed there for just over a week before returning home in time Christmas.

And it is understood the singer-songwriter has been receiving treatment in a Dublin hospital since late June. Wife Victoria Mary has not addressed the reason for his hospitalization.

But Victoria, 57, told today they were as “determined as ever” to return him to the comforts of his own home.

She said: “I’m really, really grateful that Shane looks so radiant today! And we are as determined as ever to get it.” [him] home!

“Thank you to all the doctors and nurses and all the staff and everyone who visits!”

Victoria previously took to social media to thank numerous famous faces who visited the “Fairytale of New York” hitmaker in hospital.

Country singer Daniel O’Donnell and Primal Scream legend Bobby Gillsepie were among the celebrities who visited the legendary singer.

Imelda May also stopped by for a chat and Victoria shared a lovely picture of Shane in his hospital bed next to the Liberties star.

Victoria wrote: “Thank you to the beautiful @ImeldaOfficial for cheering up Shane MacGowan and giving us a preview of your show on Kathleen Behan at the 3rd Olympic Theater.”

Journalist Victoria added a series of love heart emojis and a thumbs up.

The Tipperary The rocker has been confined to a wheelchair since he broke his pelvis in a horror fall a few years ago.

But the traditional legend was praised by Victoria for his attitude to life.

She previously wrote: “I just wanted to say thank you to @shanemacgowanofficial for somehow always letting his beautiful soul shine through despite all his struggles with his health, his mobility and creativity and everything he’s been through.”

“It’s the beauty of the wonderful people in our lives that lets us know how beautiful the world really is, even if we don’t always feel like it is!”

Shane McGowan married his 33-year-old partner Victoria in November 2018.

They tied the knot at a ceremony in Copenhagen, with Johnny Depp performing as their wedding guitarist.
