Shannen Doherty Cancer Battle: Inspirational Quotes from the ‘BH90210’ Star.

For Shannen DohertyIt’s important for her to be “as honest as possible” as she continues her battle with cancer. The actress battled breast cancer between March 2015 and April 2017 and announced in February 2020 that the disease had returned.
“In a few days or a week it will turn out that I am in Stage IV. So my cancer came back. And that’s why I’m here,” she said Good morning America at that time. “I don’t think I processed it. It’s a bitter pill in many ways.”
Doherty explained that her last diagnosis was about four months before her untimely death Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Luke Perry. “It’s so strange that I get diagnosed and then someone who seemed healthy goes first,” she said. “It was really shocking. And the least I could do to honor him was to do it [reboot BH90210]. … One of the reasons I did that, besides Luke 90210 and actually didn’t tell anyone [was] because I thought, “People can look at this.” [and see] “Other people with Stage IV can also work.” You know, our lives don’t end the minute we get this diagnosis. We still have to earn some of the living expenses.”
The Riverdale Guest star also spoke about her emotional low points. “There are definitely days when I’m like, ‘Why me?'” she admitted. “And then I’m like, ‘Why not me?’ Who else? Who else deserves that besides me?’ None of us do.”
In September 2021, the Tennessee native explained why she decided to share details about her health issues with her fans. “I feel like in my more public life, which is separate from my acting life, I have a responsibility … to talk about cancer and maybe educate people better and let them know that people with Stage IV are very much alive and very are active,” she said during a virtual panel for her film list of a lifeabout a woman who makes a wish list after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis.
When asked if she made a bucket list after her own diagnosis, the Webby Award winner replied that she didn’t: “I’m more like, ‘There’s no bucket list because I’m the longest living person with cancer.’” ,’” she told the panel. “If I had to say one thing, it would be just live. That’s the only thing on my list right now.”
