‘Shazam!’ Shambles puts James Gunn between The Rock and a hard place

Just when you thought the power struggles and deceit at Warner Bros. and DC Studios were over with the installation of James Gunn and Peter Safran as Co-CEOs, comes along Shazam! wrath of the gods opening a controversial can of worms that has nothing to do with the superhero sequel’s box office plummet.

Zachary Levi – who happens to be a close personal friend of the new bosses – recently deleted a tweet blaming the studio’s marketing machinery for the dismal opening weekend of his second solo gig. By removing it from his timeline, it seems like he acted a bit rashly, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The actor also backed rumors that Dwayne Johnson not only turned down a chance to make a cameo in Fury of the Gods, but also thwarted the prospect of Levi’s rematch Black Adam to direct the candy-colored hero into the orbit of the Justice Society.

While The Rock has been silent on the matter, we essentially have Levi blaming Warner Bros. for it Shazam! While simultaneously flopping, he blames Johnson for turning down a chance to set the stage for a crossover while Gunn deals with his first theatrical release since being named Tanker at the box office, leaving the one-time Man in Black silent too iron on the matter.

It’s a complete and utterly shitty show, to take it lightly, but it just goes to show that Warner Bros. hasn’t broken its worst habit of conjuring up scenes of blame and betrayal.
