Shocked police officers find man driving car while sitting on stool

Stunned police officers found a driver using a wooden stool instead of a driver’s seat when they stopped him for a routine stop.

Approaching the car, officers were amazed to find the driver sitting on a tiny stool balanced on two pieces of chipboard.

To make matters worse, the 33-year-old driver didn’t even have a driver’s license.

The bizarre traffic stop took place on the morning of May 18 in the town of Gütersloh, Germany.

According to local media, traffic cops stopped the car while conducting roadside checks.

Police said the stool had been placed unsafely on two pieces of chipboard and there was no seat belt or makeshift alternative.

A police spokesman said the man could not provide a plausible answer as to why his seat was missing and he was using a wooden stool instead.

In addition to the stool and the missing seat belt, the police also found that the man had been driving without a license.

The driver, who comes from the city of Harsewinkel, was given a temporary driving ban because of the ongoing court proceedings.

Germany often has loose driving laws in place due to the unlimited speeds on many of the country’s autobahns, known as Autobahnen, but the specifications that allow vehicles to drive on the roads are tightly controlled.

Recently, a multi-millionaire tycoon sparked anger when he drove his Bugatti supercar at 259 mph on a German autobahn and ran out of charge.

Prosecutors had investigated Czech investment chief Radim Passer, 58, for the stunt in his $3.1 million car that was filmed on the A2 Autobahn between Berlin and Hanover, but Stendal prosecutors dropped the investigation on appeal insufficient evidence to bring charges.

Investigators had checked whether a prohibited solo race had taken place in the investment expert’s Bugatti Chiron.

By law, this would mean that the driver “moves at an unreasonable speed and in a grossly illegal and reckless manner in order to achieve the highest possible speed”.

The pedestrian’s speed was less than 2 mph below the sports car’s limited top speed, which was set at 261 mph, because the vehicle’s tires could burst if it went faster.

The public prosecutor said that the highway was almost empty and also found good visibility and weather conditions.

Also, the Bugatti Chiron is designed for driving at such high speeds. The public prosecutor’s office ruled that nobody was endangered during the stunt at 4:50 a.m.

Much of the autobahn network in Germany has no speed limit at all, and the ‘recommended’ limit of 130 km/h (81 mph) is often ignored.

This has led to the so-called “speed tourism” that Passer has been accused of.

Last year, Germany’s Greens called for the 130 km/h recommendation to be enshrined in law as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

However, the proposal was rejected during talks to form the governing coalition with the SPD and FDP.
