Simu Liu had a great 2022, but he doesn’t seem to be doing very well at winning the public’s affections judging by the vitriol that’s attracted a simple photobomb.
That Shang Chi and Barbie Actor crashed Everything everywhere at once‘s Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu’s red carpet moment at the 20th Annual Asian American Awards on Monday, and the internet didn’t like it one bit.
A fan joked that the moment seemed like one fan asking their favorite actors for a picture while another is concerned for Quan and Hsu’s safety.
There were countless “He thinks he’s on the team” and “Get a job! Stay away from her!” also meme references.
Although Liu’s MCU film was hailed as one of the best in Phase 4 of the franchise, the actor was quickly blacklisted from the internet after his past as a Reddit user surfaced in some questionable communities. To make matters worse, the Canadian actor compared himself to the late Chadwick Boseman, sparking another wave of ridicule.
That’s just scratching the surface, because everything Liu says or does these days is a source of some kind of backlash, and his seemingly harmless photobomb with that Everything everywhere cast is another entry on this list.
Liu recently starred in the teaser trailer for Greta Gerwigs Barbie. His role in the film is yet to be revealed, but he is rumored to be playing one of several different versions of Ken. Barbie Premiering on July 21, 2023.
