Someone I Used To Know Trailer: Alison Brie in Dave Franco Rom-Com

Jay Ellis stars alongside Brie, who co-wrote the screenplay with her real-life husband, director Franco.
Now Jay Ellis is just someone Alison Brie knew in a new rom-com about regrets for letting “the one” get away.
Brie co-wrote the romantic comedy Somebody I Used to Know for Prime Video, along with real-life husband Dave Franco, who is directing. The producing duo previously worked on thriller The Rental, Franco’s directorial debut.
In Somebody I Used to Know, Brie plays Ally, a workaholic TV producer who returns to her hometown after losing her job and reconnects with her first love, Sean (Jay Ellis). The only problem? Sean is engaged to the perfect woman, Cassidy (Kiersey Clemons), who reminds Ally of who she used to be… and who she might have become. According to the official logline, the film is an unconventional love story about three people who unexpectedly help each other rediscover who they really are, where they came from and where they are going.
Brie’s “Community” co-star Danny Pudi also stars alongside Haley Joel Osment, Julie Hagerty and Amy Sedaris.
Franco shared an Instagram video to mark the trailer debut for Somebody I Used to Know, which he says was inspired by classic rom-coms of the ’80s and ’90s.
“The whole thing just makes us feel nostalgic about when we first met and we found an old voice recording from 10 years ago,” Franco shared alongside Brie. “This is a real shot of Alison expressing her love for me. I saved it on my phone as ‘Alison drunk’.”
Brie previously told IndieWire that she drew on her dating experiences before meeting Franco while co-writing the dark comedy Spin Me Round. The less-than-ideal suitors Brie faced led “Spin Me Round” to “explore the moments in my life when I felt uncomfortable, but couldn’t pinpoint why I felt uncomfortable, so I felt.” so right now it’s not really my place to speak up,” Brie said. “These scenes have nuance because a lot of them are based on stories I’ve shared about strange experiences with men that, honestly, have changed my own perspective even over the past few years. I’ll say, “Listen to this funny story I’ve been telling for a long time,” and then I’ll say, “I think that’s a traumatic story. I guess it wasn’t that cool back when I was dating this guy who was my teacher.’”
Somebody I Used to Know starts February 10th on Prime Video.
