There’s nothing left Living Dead Showrunner Angela Kang can only hope so. Season 11 and the series finale are in the can. now She just has to wait and see if viewers think she hit the landing. However, she has every reason to be optimistic. “It’s a very emotional episode,” she tells TVLine. “It’s a ride. There will be tears for the audience, and the tears will come for different reasons for different characters.

“But we really felt that, at its core, there was horror in this world. There is obviously action and adventure. But the reason people follow these people,” she continues, “is because there is a heart, a chosen family, something about their will to endure the worst of circumstances that is inspiring. So we leaned very hard in that direction because we felt like that was the core of the show.”

That said, Sunday’s “Rest in Peace” (which premieres on both AMC+ and AMC at 9/8c) doesn’t skimp on thrills and chills. “There’s a lot of action and excitement and scary and high stakes,” promises Kang. “All of that is there. For the people who crave some really cool action, this is what you’ll get.

“But I think most importantly, there are really beautiful character moments between people,” she adds. “I’m so blown away by our cast and the work they put into it. Greg Nicotero pulled out all the stops to direct a very, very challenging, huge episode in the midst of all the things we had to deal with production-wise.”

Additionally, the episode for which Kang wrote the story marks the first and last time the drama was able to accommodate a full orchestra. “So it’s going to sound really extraordinarily cinematic,” the EP reads. “The score that Bear McCreary and Sam Ewing came up with is so beautiful that I hope it gets released as its own soundtrack because it’s quite an incredible work.”
