Squid Game VR game announced by Netflix, Immersive Gamebox

“Squid Game” fans who watched the hit South Korean Netflix series saw starving people being forced to take part in life-and-death battles and thought, “I want to do that,” lucky you.

Netflix has announced a partnership with Immersive Gamebox for a new multiplayer in-person game that will allow fans to compete in simulated versions of popular challenges from the show. Contestants either lose lives or win virtual cash based on their performance in challenges such as Red Light, Green Light, Marbles, and the Squid Game of the same name. The game is made possible by a combination of virtual reality and motion sensors.

Immersive Gamebox’s “Squid Game” experience is slated to launch September 21 in nine locations across the United States: New York City; Rancho Cucamonga, California; Oakbrook, Illinois; Denver, Colo.; Dallas, Texas; San Antonio, Texas; The Woods, Texas; Salt Lake City, UT; and Arlington, Virginia. There will also be four locations in the UK. Participation is limited to players 16 and older, with a 60-minute round of the game costing between $21.99 and $39.99 per player, depending on location. This isn’t the first attempt to make Squid Game fans feel like they’re entering a deadly competition. Netflix previously announced “Squid Game: The Challenge,” a new reality show in which 456 contestants will take part in a series of challenges inspired by the show while competing for a whopping $4.56 million. fight dollars.

The immersive multiplayer game is the latest example of Netflix’s attempts to monetize its greatest properties through gaming projects. The streaming service previously announced the development of new mobile games based on several popular shows, including The Queen’s Gambit and Money Heist.

The moves come as Netflix’s lack of subscriber growth has put the industry under scrutiny, leading the company to seek alternative revenue streams beyond subscriptions and movie ticket sales.
