Star Trek: Lower Decks Episode 6 First Look: Watch – IndieWire

Over the course of four seasons, the Star Trek animated series Lower Decks’ crew of rank-and-file officers have taken on the worst jobs in all of Starfleet, the kind of menial work only done by those at the bottom of the chain of command are asked to do so. But in the series’ upcoming episode, the four main characters are given an assignment that promises far finer pleasures: a glorified bar crawl.

In “Parth Ferengi’s Heart Place”, the sixth episode of the fourth season of “Lower Decks”, junior lieutenants Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Boimler (Jack Quaid), Rutherford (Eugene Cordero) and Tendi (Noël Wells) are assigned to Starfleet . In a clip shared exclusively with IndieWire from the episode, directed by Brandon Williams and written by Cullen Crawford, her superior, First Officer Jack Ransom (voiced by Jerry O’Connell), explains that the job, one of the Starfleet’s most coveted mission is to update a planetary entry in the fleet’s official travel guide, which means gaining paid access to the system’s museums and historic sites. Most times? You will visit many bars.

Star Trek: Lower Decks, the second Star Trek animated series following the short-lived spin-off Original Series that aired from 1973 to 1974, is a comedic take on the mythos of the science fiction institution and is focused refers to the least important ship in the United Federation of Planets Starfleet, the USS Cerritos. On the Cerritos, the show focuses not on the actions of the crew’s leaders, but on the lower-ranking officers who force them to do dirty work. In Season 4, which premiered this September, the four main characters were all promoted to sub-lieutenants after working as ensigns for most of the series.

“Lower Decks” debuted in August 2020 and received relatively positive reviews. The series recently crossed over with the live-action Star Trek series Strange New Worlds, with both Newsome and Quaid portraying live-action versions of their characters. Both series were also renewed in March, with Strange New Worlds greenlit for a third season and Lower Decks greenlit for a fifth season.

The series was created by Mike McMahan, who is also known as the co-creator of the Hulu series “Solar Opposites” and for his work on “Rick and Morty.” In addition to Newsome, Quaid, Wells, Cordero and O’Connell, the series also stars Dawnn Lewis, Fred Tatasciore and Gillian Vigman as crew members of the USS Cerritos. CBS’ Eye Animation Productions, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. McMahan will executive produce alongside Alex Kurtzman and Aaron Baiers of Secret Hideout, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth of Roddenberry Entertainment, and Katie Krentz of 219 Productions. The series is animated by Titmouse, the independent animation studio that also produces “Big Mouth” for Netflix.
