‘Star Wars’ fans remain divided over a cannon-swapping shift in ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ dynamic

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker almost single-handedly sunk war of stars. The film should have been the bombastic conclusion of the sequel trilogy, although a production nightmare is running combined with Disney and Lucasfilm, which caused fear of the negative reception The Last Jedi resulted in a confusing, ill-conceived, and ridiculously ill-conceived story. We won’t go into detail, but let’s just say “Somehow Palpatine has returned” and leave it at that.

Anyway, now fans are picking one of the film’s key moments that’s been raising eyebrows since 2019. In the finale, Kylo Ren finally turns to the Light by sacrificing himself for Rey and bringing her back for a kiss just before he dies and returns to power. In hindsight, is there anything to like about this scene?

The answer according to r/StarWars is “well”:

Let’s be honest, this is a very strange romance considering her past and everything Kylo Ren has done:

We assume that toxic relationships are very war of stars:

Was that just fan service for the Reylos out there?

And we would have liked to see a redeemed Ben Solo trying to atone for the mistakes of his past:

There may be a small chance of redemption The Rise of Skywalker at the horizon. Lost and Guardian‘s Damon Lindelof is currently working on a film set after Episode IX, featuring characters from the continuation of the trilogy. We can’t deny that there were a hell of a lot of bad decisions made during this project, but there was potential for greatness. It is to be hoped that Disney and Lucasfilm have learned from these mistakes.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker can be streamed on Disney Plus.
