Stars Who Left ‘The Walking Dead’: Where Are They Now?

Quite a journey. Over the period of the Walking DeadMany stars have come and gone over the eleven seasons. While some have had shocking deaths — we’re still not over Glenn’s or Carl’s passing — other actors chose to leave the series.
AndrewLincolnwho portrayed hero cop Rick Grimes in the 2010 AMC drama series, announced he would be leaving the show during Season 9 in 2018, leaving fans shocked and curious as to how he would exit the zombie series.
“I love this show. It means everything to me. I love the people who make this show. I promise not to cry, I’ve cried enough on screen,” he said at Comic-Con ahead of his final season. “I think what I was trying to say is that my relationship with Mr. Grimes is far from over. And a big part of me will always be a machete-wielding, Stetson-wearing, zombie-killing deputy from London, England.”
A source shared with Us weekly Back then, the actor was dying to do more films and spend more time at home. After his last episode, however, it became apparent that he is definitely not done with it Walking Dead Universe. Instead, AMC is planning several Walking Dead The films are all about the character Rick Grimes and Lincoln will reprise his role.
Of course, not everyone is so lucky. Chandler Riggs left the series in 2018 after appearing as Rick’s son, Carl Grimes, for the first eight seasons. It wasn’t his decision nor did he intend to leave the series, but the character was killed after being bitten by a zombie while rescuing another member of town.
“I was planning on going to college until I found out,” Riggs said The Hollywood Reporter in 2017. “I found out while doing rehearsals for the sixth episode in June. It was quite a shock to me, Andy and everyone else because I don’t think anyone was expecting it. It’s definitely not a bad thing because it was great to be on the show, but now I can do a lot of other things that I couldn’t do before.”
Danai Gurira, who played fan-favorite Michonne, left the show after season 10. Unlike Carl, however, Michonne wasn’t killed — she went in search of Rick, who she (correctly) believes is still alive. Whether that means her return to theaters remains to be seen, but fans are certainly hopeful.
Another spin-off of the successful series, Stories from The Walking DeadPremiering in August 2022.
