Not long after news broke that he would be doing an encore The Lightning‘s own farewell season, Stephen Amell emotionally hit the mark with his initial reaction.
“Of course I’ll be back,” the Arrowverse vet shared on Twitter, along with a GIF of his Oliver Queen hugging superboyfriend Barry Allen (below).
Amell and flash Frontman Grant Gustin shared the screen for the first time on “The Scientist,” the eighth episode of Arrow Season 2, which introduced viewers to the character of Central City Police Department forensic expert Barry Allen (In front he was imbued with some speedster powers). The Lightning debuted 10 months later.
Now a Star by Starz heels, Amell had recently revisited the issue of him ever appearing in the Arrowverse again, telling Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, “Believe me when I say this would really boil down to the plot,” rather than anyone chasing payday. “There would never be a conversation about money, there would be a conversation about history.”

And what kind of story will (sort of) reunite beloved Oliver and Barry…?
“As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen.” The Lightning showrunner Eric Wallace said in a statement. “After all, it was Oliver who originally set Barry Allen on his heroic path. Because of this, everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash.”
The result of Oliver’s unlikely reappearance – after all, he died twice during the crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths” — is “an epic yet emotional episode that we hope Arrowverse fans will enjoy,” Wallace said. “It’s all to say ‘thank you’ to everyone for watching and supporting our show over nine wonderful years. We can’t wait for everyone to see Grant and Stephen save the world together again. And yes, there will be thrills, chills and tears.”
In front ArrowIn his final season, Amell reflected a bit on his legacy and influence on the various spinoff leads, telling TVLine, “my Hope is that I played a small role in the way that Grant [Gustin] sets the tone of his show, and the way Melissa [Benoist] sets the tone of her show and the way Caity [Lotz] sets the tone on her show… I hope I’ve played a small part in that. Or maybe Not. Maybe they looked at something I did and did the opposite!
