Strictly’s Zara McDermott bans her boyfriend Sam Thompson from the studio – as he reveals the ‘real reason’ he is forced to stay at home

STRICTLY Come Dancing’s Zara McDermott has banned her boyfriend Sam Thompson from seeing her on the live shows – and now he has revealed the “real reason” he has to stay at home.
During his girlfriend’s first live show, the former Made in Chelsea star was there to support her.
Shortly afterwards, Zara told Sam he should watch the BBC show from home instead of in the studio – but for good reason.
Sam explained why on Hits Radio: “If you’re wondering why you haven’t seen me in the Strictly audience, I was told to stay at home.”
He continued: “Zara and I have agreed that I can do more damage from the sofa – and by that I mean collect more votes!”
With Strictly Come Dancing viewers not allowed to take their phones into the studio, the star explained that by staying at home he could encourage more fans to vote for Zara.
He added: “I can go on Instagram and say, ‘Vote for Zara!’ because the actual studio audience is not allowed to take their phones into the studio.
“You can’t do anything with your phone in the studio, so we thought we’d do a multi-pronged attack with me on the sofa at home.”
The 31-year-old also cheekily added that it’s “not the worst thing in the world” because Strictly Come Dancing is “quite a long show” – three hours.
“I’ll be honest, it’s not the worst thing in the world because it’s a pretty long show – it’s a good three hours!” Sam shared.
The proud boyfriend said he would be “going to town” on his Instagram Stories this weekend to make sure his girlfriend survives another week.
Sam added: “I took Pete with me [Wicks] My best mate at the first show and after three dances he turned around and said, “That’s a long one, isn’t it?” So I’m going to tell stories this weekend and make sure my girlfriend gets through another week.
During her first week on Strictly, Sam appeared alongside her TV pal Pete Wicks to cheer on his girlfriend.
Back then, they made sure to stand out by wearing tailored shirts with their face printed on them.
This comes after a former Strictly Come Dancing professional claimed Zara needed a “miracle” to hold on to this week.
Brendan Cole, 47, said the 26-year-old wouldn’t be on the show much longer.
Zara rose to fame after appearing on the fourth season of Love Island. She hooked up with Adam Collard before being released from the villa ten days later.
In early 2019, shortly after leaving the show, she slid into Made in Chelsea star Sam Thompson’s DMs.
The two got along well and began a romantic relationship, but eventually parted ways in September 2020 when it came to light that Zara had been unfaithful.
Sam forgave Zara and the two decided to move on, overcome their difficulties and ultimately stay together to this day.
