Suspect in custody after woman stabbed to death with samurai sword in Mid-Wilshire area, police say

MID-WILSHIRE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A man has been taken into custody after he allegedly stabbed a woman with a samurai sword in the Mid-Wilshire area.

The incident happened at around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday at the 1200 block of Victoria Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Officials responded to the area after receiving a call of an attack with a deadly weapon.

Officials say they saw the man identified as Eric Herrera walking in the middle of the street with a sword. He was taken into custody after officers deployed a taser.

Police said there was some sort of family dispute, but it was not clear what specifically led to the stabbing.

The 43-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to hospital with multiple stab and lacerations. She is expected to be fine.

Herrera, 23, has been charged with attempted murder and is being held on $100,000 bail.
