Taylor Swift designs every element of her tours

It’s hard to imagine Taylor Swift doing anything outside of the entertainment industry. In the course of her career she has developed into one of the most successful musical artists in the world. However, Swift actually has quite a few talents aside from being a singer-songwriter. Swift also excels at marketing and branding. In fact, she’s personally curated her tours since the beginning of her career.

Most people know that Swift writes or co-writes all of her songs. However, you may not realize how involved she is in marketing her music. Everything from their music videos to their sold-out tours are things Swift conceived herself.

In 2009, Swift gave Dateline a behind-the-scenes look Fearless Trip. Swifties who attended any of the 52 shows may recall the intricately designed stage on which she performed hits like “You Belong With Me.” Even the elaborate stage, complete with quick changing rooms, hidden elevators and more, was something Swift dreamed up herself.

“Well, the cool thing about this stage is that it’s a giant projection screen,” Swift explained. “The stage is different for every song. This tour is my baby. I’m just so blown away by every angle, from how this stage evolves from a drawing I drew to its 20-foot height.” The “Hoax” singer went on to share that she loved finding a way to transform a song for a live audience.

“I spend all my time organizing it in my head,” she continued. “I just have so much fun thinking of the song as people think of it on the record and turning it into a completely different thing for the live show.” Swift’s mother, Andrea Swift, has her involvement Daughter co-signed on to the conception of the tour and the way her album was marketed and released.
“With every single decision that’s made, whether it’s artwork to put on the side of buses for the tour or a script to read, you know almost always someone in the room says, ‘Did you inquire? Taylor?’” Andrea shared.
Swift regrets having shyed away from her marketing skills earlier in her career
Taylor may own her marketing skills now, but she shied away from sharing how committed she was early in her career. She regrets that now that she is older and wiser. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Taylor shared that she’s much more comfortable showing off her savvy business acumen these days.

“I’m no longer afraid to say that other things in my career, like marketing an album, are strictly strategic,” Taylor revealed. “And I’m sick of women not being able to say they have strategic business acumen because male artists can. And so I’m fed up with having to pretend I don’t know my own business. But it’s a different part of my brain than I use to write.”
Whatever part of her brain Taylor is using, it’s clear that it continues to work for her. We’re sure she has something unique up her sleeve for her new album, midnight.
