Teachers charged with drunkenness at Fort Payne school

FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WHNT) – Fort Payne police say they arrested a teacher Monday and charged her with public intoxication.

FPD shared School resource officials arrested 49-year-old Melissa Ann Harris. Harris was charged with public intoxication, possession of alcohol on school premises and possession of a controlled substance.

Officials said Harris had prescription drugs that she did not have a prescription for.

Harris was sent to the DeKalb County Detention Center.

Officers from the Fort Payne Police Department and the Fort Payne City Schools are still investigating.
