The Indiana native gave birth to her baby girl with her then-boyfriend in 2008 Gary Shirley. The former couple split three years later, and the cop moved on marry Christina Anderson in Michigan in 2015. They share daughter Emilee.
As for Portwood, that Never late Author is also the mother of son James with Andrew Glennon. Since then, the ex-partners have been taking care of their little son together her domestic battery arrest in July 2019 and their subsequent separation. The California native has primary custody and shares joint custody with Portwood.
The 16 and pregnant Alum told exclusively Us weekly in March 2020 that she had seen James “quite a lot” and said: “I try to be coparent as best i can I get told it by a lot of people[ing] Me after my days with him, ‘I can say you saw James today because you just have that smile on your face.’ When I hear that, I’m like, ‘Yes.’ It’s just the truth.’ Something in my heart said to me, “Amber, one day you will be with your son again.” And it doesn’t matter if it’s one day a week, two days a week, three days a week, four days in of the week is. It was hard work at first…I just kept trying to focus on myself, my son and my family and I’ve gotten him back as best as I can now.”
While Portwood felt “great” in her relationship with her youngest child at the time, she and Leah had bigger issues.
“I feel like I’m never going to win,” the Forever Haute creator said during a September 2021 episode of the MTV show, explaining that the teen was “acting weird” and “turned on her.” . “I wanted us to have a great co-parenting family, which I thought we had until it got weird.”
Portwood added at the time, “That’s not the case [Leah]. She doesn’t ignore me like that. Even if I take responsibility for every single wrongdoing I’ve ever committed, I feel like it’s never enough.”
