Texas Attorney General Announces Investigation of Media Matters After Elon Musk Files ‘Thermonuclear Lawsuit’

The Attorney General of the State of Texas announced an investigation by left-wing activist site Media Matters after tech billionaire Elon Musk filed what he called a “thermonuclear lawsuit” against the organization.
Media Matters tried to pressure advertisers to leave the platform
Musk vehemently denied the report and accused the organization of completely misrepresenting the “real user experience” on the site in order to deceive advertisers. Several companies announced that they would end their advertising campaigns on the platform, including IBM, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate and Paramount.
On Monday, Musk filed his lawsuit and Paxton announced his investigation shortly thereafter.
“Today I launched an investigation into Media Matters into possible fraudulent activity after X CEO Elon Musk accused the left-wing media watchdog group of manipulating data on the social media platform,” Paxton said in a opinion on social media.
“We are examining the matter closely to ensure that the public is not deceived by the machinations of radical left-wing organizations who would like nothing more than to restrict freedom by restricting participation in the public square,” he said added.
Media Matters previously released a statement about Musk’s threat of litigation.
“Far from being the free speech advocate he claims to be, Musk is a bully who threatens baseless lawsuits to silence reports he has even confirmed to be accurate,” Angelo said Carusone, President of MMFA. “Musk admitted that the ads in question ran alongside the pro-Nazi content we identified. If he sues us, we will win.”
Republican Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey also said Sunday that his legal team was reviewing the allegations against Media Matters.
Musk appeared eager to do battle with the liberal organization, adding: “The discovery and the statements will be wonderful to see.”
