Texas Cops Swarm High School, arrest of a student the day after Uvalde

Police in a Dallas suburb on Wednesday arrested a youth on gun charges after reports the student appeared to be carrying a gun to a nearby high school. This comes just a day after a high school student shot dead 21 people at an elementary school and killed 19 children in Uvalde, Texas.

The Richardson Police Department released a statement Wednesday morning that they had received a 9-1-1 call “reporting a man holding what appeared to be a gun” and to LV Berkner High School just before 11 a.m went

“Within minutes of the call being sent, numerous police officers from various units within the Berkner High School Richardson Police Department responded and began a search and investigation into this incident,” the police department wrote on its Facebook page.

All other schools in the immediate area were notified of the suspicious activity and police worked with the Richardson Independent School District to identify the man, identified as a Berkner High student. Police were able to locate him at the high school on Wednesday, but he did not have any weapons with him, the statement said.

“Further investigation led to the discovery of a vehicle used by the suspect in the parking lot at 1551 East Spring Valley Road. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered what appeared to be an AK-47 style pistol and a replica AR-15 style Orbeez rifle,” the police statement said.

Investigators said the guns were loaded into the student’s Volkswagen Jetta, which was eventually towed away.

The student, whose name was not released due to age restrictions, was arrested and charged with carrying a gun in a gun-free school zone, TPC 46.02, which is a felony in the Texas state penitentiary.

“The Richardson Police Department would like to remind the public of the importance of reporting suspicious activity as we recognize the vigilant awareness and actions of the individual who originally called 911 to alert law enforcement,” she continued explanation continued.

Berkner had been suspended, as had nearby Springridge Elementary School.

Banneka Namasaka has one child who is a freshman at Berkner High, and he received amazing news from another child who is only 10 years old.

“My daughter came home today, she’s 10 years old, and she said, ‘Oh my god dad, there’s been a lockdown,’ I haven’t had the conversation yet,” Namasaka told Fox 4 News in DFW.

This comes a day after the deadly mass shooting at Robb Primary School in Uvalde, in which a high school student entered and gunned down 19 children and two adults. The suspect in the shooting, Salvador Ramos, was an 18-year-old student at Uvalde High School.
