stranger things Season 4 premiered on Netflix on Friday, May 27 and revealed the next chapter in the lives of Hawkins residents.
The series’ penultimate season has been split into two parts, with the second half consisting of just two episodes, which will be released on Friday, July 1st.
In the first half of Season 4, a number of questions are raised and left unanswered. Here are the main ones that Part 2 has to answer.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Stranger Things Season 4 Part 1.
1. Will Eleven get her powers back?
The biggest question emerging stranger things Season 4 is about whether or not Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) can regain her powers.
Eleven lost her telekinetic abilities in Season 3 after facing off against the Mind Flayer, and she is taken to a secret location in Nevada in the latest episodes to see if it’s possible to undo the damage.
Unfortunately for Eleven, the crime requires her to meet her dad, aka Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine), who has returned from the dead and is ready to put her back in a tank to relive her old memories.
dr Brenner hopes that reliving her past traumas will trigger Eleven’s powers, and she experiences the worst of all in the finale.
Whether the truth about Vecna will help her regain her powers remains to be seen, but that will likely be covered in Part 2.
2. Will Nancy and Max die?
Brown joked in an interview with The Wrap that the cast is off stranger things had gotten too big and they needed one Game of Thrones-esque cull to get rid of some of the characters.
Well, while what Brown said was meant as a joke, it appears that the two main competitors to be killed off in Season 4 are Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) and Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink).
Both Max and Nancy have become targets of Vecna, with the latter being put into a trance by the monster at the end of Season 4 Part 1.
Luckily for Max, Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) has discovered that music can help ward off the monster’s hallucinations, but will it be possible to save Nancy in the same way?
And realistically, how long will Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill save Max? These are some of the questions that Season 4 Part 2 should address.
3. Can all portals to the inverted be closed?
An interesting mystery that comes up in the first half of Season 4 is the fact that Vecna creates a portal to the Upside Down every time he kills his victims.
As far as we know, there are currently three portals to The Upside Down in Hawkins, but there may well be more that viewers are unaware of.
Whether the closure of all of these portals will be addressed in the final two episodes of Season 4 is unclear, as they could well pose an issue that will continue into the show’s fifth and final season.
4. Will Eleven reach Hawkins in time to face Vecna?
So far at Hawkins, the gang has been trying to solve the mystery surrounding Vecna, and thanks to Dustin Henderson’s (Gaten Matarazzo) ingenuity, they’ve figured out where he is and found a way to escape the Upside Down.
The only problem they face is how to fend off the monster, because in previous seasons it was largely thanks to Eleven that they were able to fend off Upside Down’s various creatures.
If Eleven is able to regain her powers, the question remains: will she be able to reach Hawkins in time to save the day?
Given the precarious situation the Hawkins crew finds themselves in at the end of the season, they have to think fast as Eleven isn’t close enough (yet) to help them.
5. Will Joyce and Murray break Hopper out of prison?
By the Part 1 finale, Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman) have finally made it to the Russian prison where Jim Hopper (David Harbour) has been held since Season 3.
The dynamic duo have successfully helped Hopper and Dimitri (Tom Wlaschiha) escape the demagogon that the Russians have kept, but the monster is still at large and could cause problems for the quartet later.
Joyce, Murray, Hopper and Dimitri may have won the battle but they still have to fight the war as they must now find a way to escape from prison without getting killed.
This is certainly something that needs to be addressed by the end of Season 4.
