I was diagnosed at 14 Alopecia areataIt is a disease that can occur when a person’s immune system attacks hair follicles, resulting in hair loss. After finally being diagnosed after struggling with sudden hair loss, I began treatment with bi-weekly visits to the dermatologist to have multiple injections into each bald spot to promote regrowth. It took a lot of time and multiple treatments to see any visible regrowth, and new bald spots often appeared while others eventually disappeared, which can be both discouraging and annoying.

While I now have my alopecia areata under control, I have noticed that my hair is slowly losing volume as I get older. Although this thinning is more even than the bald spots from my teenage years, it still scares me when I see huge strands of hair in the shower after washing my hair. Fearful of developing acute alopecia areata again, I recently decided it was time to invest in some preventative—and corrective—hair loss products to keep my hair intact and prevent future flare-ups. Although I’m not a dermatologist or alopecia expert, these over-the-counter hair care products have helped my hair look thicker and healthier.

Each Hair Care 5 Star Deep Conditioner

I use this strengthening deep conditioner once a week and noticed softer and shinier hair after just a few months. It restores moisture to my dry strands and I’ve noticed it reduces my split ends too. If you leave it in your hair for the recommended time or all day like I did, people will wonder what you did differently to achieve that shine – trust me!

I usually hate the sticky, greasy feeling that oil (for skin or hair) leaves on my hands, so I’ve always avoided oil-based products – until I heard about Verb’s Ghost Oil. This weightless, non-sticky hair oil has given my hair the essential nutrients it needs to stay healthy and full, while also acting as a heat protectant before using styling tools to prevent further breakage.

Fable and Mane HoliRoots Indian Hair Growth Oil

That’s another llight oil that I can use it without it feeling greasy or sticky. I apply it to my roots and scalp at least once a week to increase blood flow to the scalp, which can potentially promote hair growth – and so far it seems to be working. I also like that this treatment oil smells like I just sprayed perfume on at night, so it doubles as a perfume!

Although I had heard about the potential benefits of castor oil for hair growth, I had never used castor oil until I was sent a bottle of Sky Organics (Again, I used to detest oils!). Now I finally understand the hype. I use it as an alternative to hair gel when I want to comb my hair back between hair washing days. This castor oil is full of fatty acids that help nourish your scalp and roots, and I’ve honestly noticed a significant reduction in hair loss after showering since using it.

Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Scalp and Hair Strengthening Oil

I fell victim to this product’s TikTok virality and I’m so glad I did. Enriched with biotin and 30 other essential oils and nutrients affordable hair oil has really changed my hair growth. I actually heard Mielle founder Monique Rodriguez win an award and speak at Taliah Waajid’s Natural Hairshow and her story behind the brand is so inspiring that it makes me love her even more.
