The Coroner’s Office says actress Anne Heche died from burns and respiratory injuries following her car accident and the death was ruled an accident.
LOS ANGELES — Actress Anne Heche died from an inhalation injury and burns following her fiery car crash, and the death was ruled an accident, coroner’s findings released Wednesday show.
Heche, 53, also had a broken sternum caused by “blunt trauma”. information at the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s website.
A full autopsy report is still being finalized, the coroner’s office said.
The Emmy-winning film and television actor was removed from life support on Sunday in a burn center. She was injured when her car jumped a curb and crashed into a home in West Los Angeles on August 5. The car and the house caught fire. Only Heche was injured.
According to a statement released last week on behalf of her family and friends, Heche suffered a “severe anoxic brain injury” caused by lack of oxygen.

She was declared brain dead but kept alive until her organs could be donated.
Detectives investigating the crash had said narcotics were found in a blood sample taken from Heche. However, police ended their investigation after she was declared brain dead.
The coroner’s office gave August 11 as the date of her death.
Heche first rose to prominence on the NBC soap opera Another World in the late 1980s before becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest stars in the late 1990s. She was a constant on magazine covers and in big budget films alongside actors like Johnny Depp and Harrison Ford.
