The challenge returns for season 38 with the theme “Ride or Dies”. The 34-strong cast includes seven-time champion Johnny “Bananas” DeVananzio, returning for the 23rd time. But in the coming season the “other” is missing. challenge GOAT, Chris “CT” Tamburello. After back-to-back wins in seasons 36 and 37, CT is taking a break – and the 42-year-old recently hinted that the break could be permanent.
CT Tamburello has rarely taken a break from The Challenge
CT has continued to compete The challenge 19 times since he made his MTV debut Real World: Paris back in 2003. He has five wins on his resume, including back-to-back wins in the last two seasons – double agents and Spies, lies and allies.
Over the past two decades, CT has evolved from a young 20-year-old hothead who’s had a few DQs to a mature and highly competitive one challenge Legend.
But with all these impressive stats comes the fact that CT has barely taken a break from the MTV reality competition. So far he has played eight of the last nine seasons without a break.
The GOAT says it’s time to just ride into the sunset
During a recent appearance on Devin Walker’s weekly show Bet on Devin on the Vegas Insider Podcast, CT stated that he was ready to take a break after Season 37. But instead of resting and relaxing a bit, CT seemed to hint at it challenge Pause could be permanent.
“After winning back-to-back, at this point I’m basically… I think it’s time to just drive into the sunset. I always say never say never and all that, but what now, you know?” said CT.
“I don’t want to go down that rabbit hole again The challenge and what it is and as i get older and i’ve been doing it for so long and i don’t really have anything to prove. I think a lot has to do with the fact that I want to do something different because … I don’t know if my heart is in it The challenge more.”
CT Tamburello Still Loves “The Challenge”
CT insisted he still loves The challenge, noting that he “grew up in front of everyone” on the show. “But … think about it, you film two a year plus the spinoffs and so on, you’re gone 6, 8, 9 months a year, I don’t know if I can do that,” he said.
He wouldn’t officially state that he’s retired, but CT said he’s taking this current break for a specific reason — he wants to spend more time with his family.
“My son is five years old. I film two shows a year, three months straight, that’s half the year I’m away. I can’t because he’s older now.” CT told Entertainment Weekly. “Leaving? I can’t bring myself to ever say I’m going to retire.”
He won’t rule out the spinoff shows like All stars, either. But CT has shifted his career focus a bit to acting. He is currently starring in the film The most dangerous game alongside Tom Berenger, Casper Van Dien and Judd Nelson.
