The Coast Guard is assisting 2 boaters aboard a vessel that hits water near South Padre Island

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (KTRK) — The Coast Guard assisted two boaters aboard a vessel that was taking on water near South Padre Island on Sunday.

According to Coast Guard Station South Padre personnel, at 1:50 p.m. they received a call from a Good Samaritan who was helping two people aboard a 20-foot pontoon boat that went aground 500 meters offshore in the Laguna Madre .

Authorities said a 24-foot flatwater boat crew, who departed from the South Padre Island station, arrived at the scene and took the vessel in tow.

The crew towed the pontoon boat safely to the Isla Blanca Boat Ramp.

“This case exemplifies the importance of boaters staying alert and looking out for one another on the water,” authorities said. “We want to thank today’s Good Samaritan for being so willing to help other boaters out of a perilous situation.”
