The Dodgers team up with the nonprofit Worthy of Love to throw a dreamy birthday bash for homeless kids at Dodger Stadium

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Joy filled the air at Dodger Stadium on Monday night as the team worked with a local non-profit to throw a massive birthday celebration for hundreds of children affected by homelessness.

The group worthy of love brought more than 500 kids from four different shelters across Los Angeles County together for one night to just forget the hard times and have some fun.

“Some of the kids don’t even know when it’s their birthday,” said Worth of Love executive director Mary Davis. “They’ve never had a birthday party, so we’re here to say, ‘You’re worth it.'”

Monday marked the fifth year the Dodgers had thrown this party, and it happened to fall on the eve of Jackie Robinson’s 105th birthday.

“That’s once in a lifetime, I guess,” said guest Aaron Rhodes. “Everyone should enjoy their birthday as much as possible.”

It’s all part of the team’s 19th annual community service week known as Dodgers love LA Community Tourand former Dodgers players Dennis Powell and Derrel Thomas were in attendance Monday.

“I’ve always seen baseball as a place of escape, a place to get away from the world, and just for tonight it’s a place to get away from the life you came from,” Powell said. “Just to give them a little note that someone loves them, someone sees them and is thinking of them. They smile everywhere. I see smiles and laughter, they get their faces painted, they eat, and they just have a great time.”

On Tuesday, Freddie Freeman will host a special food distribution event in Long Beach.

By the end of the week there will be other Dodgers players hosting similar events elsewhere in LA County. For more informations, Click here.
