The Golden Globes can’t be that important if 27 nominees didn’t show up

In recent years, the Golden Globes has fueled a range of minor and major controversies, with many considering the once-prestigious awards show to be irrelevant and ultimately quite pointless in the grand scheme of things.
Last night’s glitz and glamor proved to be a small return to form, but you know the event’s reputation was in tatters when one of the night’s easiest and most recurring gags was poke fun at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association history has shown they love few things more than being told how wonderful they all are.
To highlight just how skippable the Golden Globes have become, nearly 30 nominees — including a handful of eventual winners — didn’t even bother to appear in person. Sure, Kevin Costner had an excuse and sent a video message after scooping up a trophy for his performance yellowstonebut there are still more than two dozen who have not had a ready explanation.
We all know why Brendan Fraser was absent while Cate Blanchett was stuck in the UK due to work commitments, but who else ended up on the shortlist but wasn’t spied with a seat at one of the tables? We need to take a deep breath, because there’s a whole lot of it.
As well as the above trio, Amanda Seyfried, Zendaya Jeff Bridges, Olivia Colman, Daniel Craig, Adam Driver, Ralph Fiennes, Colin Firth, Bill Hader, Hugh Jackman, Laura Linney, John Lithgow, Diego Luna, Lesley Manville, Steve Martin, Carey Mulligan, Bill Nighy, Aubrey Plaza, Jonathan Pryce, Julia Roberts, Martin Short, Imelda Staunton, Emma Thompson,
and John Turturro were nowhere to be found, so perhaps the Golden Globes’ reputation hasn’t improved in the way the HFPA would like you to believe.
