The Good Doctor Recap: Episode 100 – Suspense with Shaun and Powell

The good doctor‘s 100th episode is light on pomp and circumstance but heavy on drama as the tension between Drs. Shaun Murphy and Danica Powell reach a boil.

With Powell present, it’s Shaun’s job to put his personal feelings aside and guide her like he would any other intern – but since her introduction in the second episode of Season 6, she’s been a thorn in the side of her boss . Shaun is furious to discover that Powell played a role in Lim’s decision not to have spinal cord surgery, but that shouldn’t affect how he treats his subordinate. It’s inappropriate for him to say he finds her annoying — first to her patient, then to her face — and his decision to list all the things he doesn’t like about her is the last straw that broke the camel’s back brings. He not only scolds her for being unruly, but also for wearing hand cream that smells strongly of almonds. If she calls him an ass, it’s fully deserved.

And yet Shaun is not entirely wrong. It’s his approach that’s wrong. Powell is a know-it-all sometimes. But he doesn’t have to like her to listen to her ideas. If she comes to him with a half-baked idea, he should work with her to make it a better one. She shouldn’t be ostracized for trying to do her job.

Shaun’s initial attempts to find common ground with Powell are unsuccessful—he likes the Weather Channel, she likes films about natural disasters; he likes pancakes, she likes Vietnamese crepes – but the two eventually bond over a shared love of the history of surgery. They use Civil War-era technology in the operating room when a hospital-wide power outage forces them to get to their feet.

After that, Powell switches hand creams. It goes a long way in smoothing things over with their participation.

The 100th episode also takes Morgan on a very personal journey. dr Reznick’s life hasn’t turned out the way she hoped it would; Not only is she not a surgeon, but she’s nowhere near ready to settle down with anyone after her split from Park. She concludes that the void in her life can be filled by becoming a parent — and she seems serious about making it happen. Exactly how remains unclear.
