This article contains spoilers for The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special

The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special has just landed on Disney Plus, delivering on its promise of a heartwarming and funny story centered around Marvel’s finest team of space heroes. There’s not much more than that, although we do get some excellent festive pindrops, and Kevin Bacon is clearly having a lot of fun playing himself.

As an aside, James Gunn is secretly making a really obscure IP part of the MCU canon. At the beginning of the episode, Drax and Mantis travel to Earth in search of Mr. Bacon and make their way to Hollywood Boulevard. This is an excuse for some fun cameos from actors dressed as MCU favorites, although there’s one guy dressed like a robot. Drax sees him and gets angry while Mantis holds him back and yells, “I’m sorry! GoBots killed his cousin!”

In the early 1990s, Hasbro acquired Tonka and the GoBots rights, and they’ve made occasional cameo appearances in transformers Franchise.

What this means for her now becoming MCU canon is unclear. Marvel has historically had close ties to the transformers franchise, with her British arm responsible for a popular comic series that brings a lot of depth to her world. More recently, Disney and Hasbro have enjoyed a close commercial relationship through merchandising, for which a multi-year deal was in place war of stars, Wonderand Indiana Jones toy licenses.

Especially Hasbro and the GoBots IP isn’t mentioned in the credits, so we’re guessing James Gunn is simply a fan. Still off The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas SpecialAre there official GoBots anywhere in the MCU, although it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever actually see them.
