The LAPD is searching for a motorcyclist after a 13-year-old boy lost a leg in a hit-and-run accident in Boyle Heights

BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC)– Los Angeles Police Department is asking the public for help locating a hit-and-run suspect after a 13-year-old boy lost his leg in a crash.

The boy was crossing Whittier Boulevard at Orme Avenue at a crosswalk around 3:30 p.m. Thursday when he was hit by a motorcyclist, the LAPD said in a news release.

New video of the aftermath of the accident shows the motorcyclist falling to the ground and falling as the bike skids across the road. The motorcyclist gets up, dusts himself off and then gesticulates angrily. Then he takes off.

“The suspect got back on his motorcycle and fled east on Whittier Boulevard without stopping and identifying himself or providing assistance as required by law,” police said.

The victim, 13-year-old Joshua Mora, lost his right leg in the accident and is in critical condition at the hospital.

“I was trying to back up a little bit so he wouldn’t hit me as hard and I backed up a little bit and then he got my leg,” Mora said during an interview with Eyewitness News on Tuesday. “That’s when I fell back and passed out a bit.”

The teenager said he was crossing the street to get his hair cut when he was beaten.

“I’m strong, stay positive. I have my family here to support me,” Mora said.

The suspect was only described as male. The motorcycle was described as black with damage sustained during the collision, police said.

A $25,000 reward is being offered to anyone who can help identify the motorcyclist.

Meanwhile, Mora’s family has started one GoFundMe to pay his medical bills. To date, they have received more than $26,000 in donations.
