The Last of Us fan art masterfully etches out the looming chaos just days before its debut

HBO adaptation of Naughty Dog The last of us is a few weeks away from its official debut and fans can hardly contain it.

Trailers for the show suggest it will stay true to the story featured in several hugely popular games, and early reviews are already promising an engaging and heartbreaking adaptation. Fans of the games behind the upcoming series are counting down the days until Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey debut as Joel and Ellie, and are celebrating the show’s upcoming premiere with enthusiastic social media posts and fan art.

The latter comes in many shapes and forms, but one of the most impressive arrived on Reddit on January 3rd. Designed by the undeniably talented JustRalphyyy, a collection of comic book covers honors the upcoming series in impeccable style, reinventing Pascal and Ramsey in stylized, nostalgic comic book designs.

Capturing a moment from the trailers or early stills, each of the images in JustRalphyyy’s post flawlessly captures the various stars who are primed to join the Last of Us universe via the HBO series. Each comic comes with a 30 cent price tag and several teasers as to the content. They’re also set in locations and moments from the games, taking “readers” from the Cordyceps outbreak to “The Hospital,” a place that game fans know all too well.

The original poster was universally acclaimed for its contribution in the comments section, as people flocked to praise JustRalphyyy’s clear talent. Several people made requests for weekly, episodic issues — something JustRalphyyy seems open to — and suggested sharing the art with them The last of us Creator Neil Druckmann himself. Some fans are even interested in prints of the beautiful comic book covers.

The stunning covers are just the latest in a series of artworks celebrating the arrival of The last of us Adjustment. The incredibly popular games have come close to being adapted once before – in a project that was happily abandoned – but HBO’s attempt seems to be exactly what fans were hoping for: a gritty, live-action, literal take on a story that there already are absolutely perfect.
