Your eyes aren’t fooling you — Melanie Lynskey is actually in HBOs The last of us.
“Surprise!” the Yellow jackets Stern continued Twitter Monday, shortly after her stealth casting was revealed in the series’ first official trailer (see above).
When one of Lynskey’s 154,000 followers asked how she got involved in HBO’s adaptation of the hugely popular video game, the actress explained that she was a “fan” of The last of us“ Co-creator Craig Mazin.
TVLine has since learned that Lynskey will play Kathleen, the ruthless leader of a revolutionary movement in Kansas City.
Set two decades after the implosion of today’s society, The last of us — set to debut in 2023 — revolves around Joel (The Mandalorian‘s Pedro Pascal), a tough survivor hired to take care of a 14-year-old girl named Ellie (game of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey) from a ‘suppressive’ quarantine zone, according to the official synopsis. “What starts as a small job soon turns into a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they both “have to cross the United States” which has been ravaged by a deadly disease called the Cordyceps fungus, “and depend on each other for survival.”
The cast also includes Anna Torv (edge area), Storm Reid (euphoria), Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), Gabriel Luna (Marvel’s agents from SHIELD), Merle Dandridge (Green leaf), Nico Parker (The third day), Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) and Con O’Neill (Chernobyl).
