From the looks of the cast, production values, and fidelity to the source material, it looks like it will The last of us will exceed all our expectations – which are already quite high.

Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic survival drama went on to become one of the best-selling video games of all time, winning multiple awards including multiple Game of the Year awards. The story follows hardened smuggler Joel as he is tasked with transporting teenage girl Ellie – the key to developing a cure for her Cordyceps Mushroom ravaging the US – across the states to be recovered by the Fireflies, a resistance group of survivalists who have the means to end the rampage of the infected. It’s the emotional investment that draws an audience, particularly those with a bond with Naughty Dog’s games.

“They were just people. And that, in and of itself, is remarkably rare in games. The fact that they kept it so grounded and really made you feel – I’ve never seen anything like it, and I’ve been playing video games since 1977.”

Mazin makes another important point by saying that playing video games is usually more fun than watching, even for a cinematic spectacle The last of us. That in itself presents another challenge, so there has to be a healthy mix of taking inspiration from the games and then taking the initiative to take the story in a different, unexpected and more creative direction.

“Games themselves are often brilliant to play and not at all brilliant to watch when dramatized. why are we only do what’s in the game? What can we do to expand?’
