The Last of Us trailer confirms the apocalypse won’t be the only obstacle in Joel and Ellie’s dangerous journey

This could turn out to be the adaptation of our dreams. HBO just released a full-length trailer The last of usand it includes a song that video game fans will recognize all too well.
The show, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, is an adaptation of Naughty Dog’s acclaimed 2013 game. ChernobylCraig Mazin from ‘s and Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog are overseeing the project, which according to this latest trailer you can see above does its best to recapture the magic of the original.
The trailer highlights the strained relationship between Joel and Ellie and how reluctantly Joel accepted to accompany her through the apocalyptic landscape of the United States. There’s also a melodic cover of “Take Me On” accompanying the trailer, which most fans would describe as not only the classic ’80s hit, but also the song Ellie was performing with a heartbreakingly emotional rendition along the way The Last of Us Part II.
All in all, Druckmann and Mazin seem to be here to tug at your hearts again, so go expect anything, even a deviation from the original storyline that you didn’t see coming. In fact, the producers may have opted to combine the narrative beats from the two games into a cohesive story for the live-action adaptation. So, without going into spoilers, who knows how long it will take them to reach that defining moment in Ellie’s life that took place in Part II?
In any case, The last of us is slated for a January 15 premiere on HBO platforms.
