We finally got our first look at last night Indiana Jones 5now officially titled Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. 80-year-old Harrison Ford will don the fedora and wield the whip for one final adventure, set in the late 1960s and set against the backdrop of the space race.
For years, the future of Indiana Jones The franchise appears to be recasting the role, allowing a younger actor to play one of cinema’s most iconic roles. But after this trailer, the technology seems to have advanced so much that a digitally aged Harrison Ford is practically indistinguishable from reality.
So if we can bring a younger Indy to the big screen, why couldn’t we see Han Solo return? The Mandalorian?
The Mandalorian will be set in between Vengeance of the Sith and The Force Awakens, meaning the original trilogy’s favorites are out there somewhere in the universe, doing their thing. We’ve already seen Mark Hamill deepfake Luke Skywalker The Mandalorian‘s season two finale and in Boba Fett’s bookso there doesn’t seem to be any technical reason why they couldn’t do the same for Han (and judging by this trailer, they already have the deepfake ready to go).
The only thing standing in the way is Harrison Ford himself. The famously grumpy actor is said to have just agreed to star in it The Force Awakens if Han died in it. Ford briefly reprized the role in The Rise of Skywalkeralthough this was to honor the memory of his dearly departed friend Carrie Fisher.
But hey, if the stars are right (and if Disney parks a dump truck full of money in front of Ford’s house), we might see Han one last time.
The Mandalorian Season 3 will air on Disney Plus in March 2023.
