The small Tokyo Starbucks store is the first in the city of Los Angeles to unionize

LITTLE TOKYO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A Starbucks in Little Tokyo is the first location in the city of Los Angeles to vote for unionization.

The results of the union election were announced on Monday, and the Little Tokyo store approved the move.

Fernando Hernandez, a senior organizer at Workers United, said the vote was 5-0 in favor of the union.

“It’s only going to grow. The movement will continue,” Hernandez said at a news conference on Monday.

Meanwhile, a Los Alamitos site turned down a request for unionization.

Starbucks employees at more than 200 stores across the country have tried to unionize, including at least 20 here in California.
