The ticketing area at LAX has been evacuated to allow police to investigate the suspicious item

A portion of the ticketing area at Los Angeles International Airport was evacuated Saturday night after a suspicious item was discovered.

The item was found at the Tom Bradley Terminal around 9:30 p.m., LAX Police said in a statement to KCAL. Officials diverted travelers and staff to the West Way.

“Traffic has been diverted onto West Way due to police activity at Tom Bradley Terminal on the upper level,” LAX Police wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “Your patience is appreciated.”

An explosives squad responded on site to examine the item and just before 11pm the scene of the accident was deemed safe

“Around 9:30 p.m., a suspicious item was found at the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Airport police responded and instituted a lockdown and partial evacuation,” LAX said in a statement.

“LAPD Bomb Squad responded and determined the item was considered safe,” the statement continued. “Repopulation is underway.”

It is unclear what item it was.
