The upcoming Evil Queen Gal Gadot celebrates 85 years of Disney’s ‘Snow White’

Disney’s track record with its live-action adaptations hasn’t been great lately. Beauty and the Beast set a high bar in 2017, but subsequent films like it Lady and Tramp, Dumbo, Mulan and especially this year it’s terrible Pinocchio didn’t exactly set the world on fire (see Del Toro Pinocchio instead of this!).

But hopes for Marc Webb are high snow whitewhich will bring the animated classic from 1937 2024 to the big screen. Rachel Zegler is cast in the title role wonder woman himself, Gal Gadot, as the Evil Queen. Now, to celebrate the holiday season, Gadot has posted an Instagram image of the old and new versions of the characters kicking off the season:

This project is not without controversy. game of Thrones Star Peter Dinklage was scathing about a new version of the story earlier this year, saying to Marc Maron WTF Podcasts:

“Step back and look at what you’re doing. It doesn’t make any sense to me… You’re progressive in a way, but then you’re still making up this fucking backwards story about seven dwarfs living together in a cave, what the hell are you doing man? Haven’t I done anything to move things forward from my soapbox? I think I’m not loud enough. I don’t know which studio this is but they were so proud of it. Much love and respect to the actress and all the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I’m just wondering, what are you doing?

Disney immediately went into damage control mode, saying, “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we took a different approach with these seven characters and consulted with members of the dwarf community.” They also promptly renamed the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs too simple snow white

It remains to be seen what Disney’s new approach to Happy, Bashful, Sneezy, Grumpy, Sleepy, Dopey and Doc will be, although afterwards they must know they’re walking into a potential PR minefield.

snow white will hit theaters on March 22, 2024, so we’ll likely have to wait a long time for the first trailer to appear. Fingers crossed that everything works out for the best. The upcoming Evil Queen Gal Gadot celebrates 85 years of Disney’s ‘Snow White’
