Almost 10 years after Britney broke through with her debut single “Baby One More Time”. was placed under a conservatory direction – headed by her father, Jamie Spears – in February 2008 after a series of public personal struggles. For several years, Jamie was in control of his eldest daughter’s estate and person until Jodi Montgomery took over in 2019. Lynne – who divorced Jamie in 2002 – got caught up in the lawsuit in 2020 when she requested to be involved in financial decisions on behalf of the “Circus” singer. For her part, Britney has been vocal about how her parents are managing their affairs.
“I just want my life back. It’s been 13 years and it’s enough. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had my money,” the “Stronger” actor said during an emotional court hearing in June 2021. “And it’s my wish and my dream that this all ends without a trial.” … I would honestly like to sue my family to be perfectly honest. Also, I want to be able to share my story and what they did to me with the world, rather than keeping it a secret for everyone’s benefit.”
She added: “I’m not happy. I can not sleep. I am so angry. That’s crazy. And I’m depressed.”
Conservatory work finally ended in November 2021, but bad blood between Britney and her family lingered.
“A woman came up with the idea [of the conservatorship] to my dad, and my mom actually helped him through that and made everything possible,” the former Mouseketeer claimed in a now-deleted August 2022 video shared via YouTube. “Basically everything was prepared. There were no drugs in my body. No alcohol. No nothing. It was pure abuse.”
Britney continued at the time, “How the hell did they get away with that?” How is there a God? is there a god I was so, so weak… I was scared, I was broken. I’m sharing this because I want people to know that I’m only human… How can I make amends if I don’t talk about it?”
The Grammy winner went on to claim she was angrier at her mom than her dad because she could have helped — but didn’t.
“The whole thing that made it really confusing for me is these people [the #FreeBritney movement] are on the streets fighting for me but for my sister [Jamie Lynn Spears] and my mother don’t do anything,” Britney claimed in her bombastic shot. “For me, it was like, secretly, they genuinely liked that I was the bad guy – like I was messed up and they kind of just liked it that way.” in the car.’ Let’s go.’ I think that’s the main thing that hurt me. I couldn’t understand how my family put up with it for so long. Her only response was, ‘We didn’t know.’”
For her part, Lynne responded to her daughter’s claims via Instagram in August. She wrote: “Britney I’ve done my best my whole life to support your dreams and aspirations! And besides, I did my best to help you out of trouble!”
The If U Seek Amy actress has since kept her distance from her family — including Lynne, Jamie and the others Zoey 101 Alum – neither of them were invited to their wedding in June 2022 Sam Asghari.
