The Uvalde Police Department and school district are no longer cooperating with a Texas investigation into the police response, ABC News reports

An ABC message report said that the Uvalde Police Department and the Uvalde School District Police Department were no longer cooperating with an investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Local law enforcement have faced an incredible scrutiny over the mass shooting at Uvalde Primary School. The police have repeatedly revised initial statements about their reaction to the attack, which has led to greater criticism.

Multiple law enforcement agencies corroborated her report, according to ABC News.

The decision was reportedly made after a heartbreaking news conference Friday by Col. Steven McCraw, head of the DPS, where he said the decision to delay entry into the classroom was against protocol and the wrong decision.

McCraw told reporters that the scene commander “mistakenly believed he had gone from being an active shooter to a barricaded subject.”

He went on to give a timeline of the day’s events, showing how long police waited to go into the classroom and neutralize the shooter, despite calls from children who were still inside.

“Based on the information we have, there were obviously children in this classroom who were still at risk,” McCraw concluded. “From today’s perspective, where I’m sitting now, it was of course not the right decision. It was the wrong decision. Period.”

He also revealed video evidence showed a teacher had opened the door the suspect used to gain entry to the school.

ABC News said a spokesman for DPS declined to comment on the report.

Nineteen school children and two teachers were killed in the attack and more than a dozen injured. Many on the left have responded to the horrific massacre by renewed calls for tougher gun control laws.
